I’m Jason Wilson, the CEO of EDFX Media and this is my story:
Back in 2020, I was quarantined like everyone else and trying to figure out how to pivot professionally. And one day, God gave me the idea to start a podcast. I had never had that thought previously, but I really liked the idea. So, to begin getting in front of people online, I planned an online event with a keynote speaker. I started reaching out to my contacts on Linkedin and I sent Ray Leonard Jr. a DM asking him if he would be interested in being my keynote speaker. To my surprise, he said yes.
The night of the event, I had everything prepared to begin the event and 10 minutes before, there was a power outage in my neighborhood. I couldn’t believe what has happening, but at the same time, I had to contact Ray and everyone else to let them know what happened.
I called Ray and he said not to worry about it and that when you’re trying to do something positive, this kind of thing happens. I was so relieved that he was cool about the whole situation and no more than 10 minutes later, the power came back on and we were able to do the event.
Shortly after that experience, I started reaching out to more connections on Linkedin to find guests for my new podcast show called Living On Purpose Podcast.
The first person to respond was Chris Jasper, one of my R&B heroes from the iconic group, the Isley Brothers. I didn’t have the necessary podcast equipment to make the show look or sound high-quality. All I had was my laptop computer and my faith.
It turned out to be an awesome conversation with Chris, but looking back at the quality of the episode, I laugh at it. The image is grainy because of the web camera and my sound was sub-par as well. However, it was a great beginning and it gave me the confidence to continue with my show. As time progressed, I invested in a microphone and a good web camera. I began to watch videos of how to produce podcasts and I found it really interesting. From there, my hobby developed into a business.
It’s funny to look back on how everything has led me to start EDFX Media, but it’s been a wonderful journey and a blessing.
